To My Hunter Mill District Neighbors:
Governor Northam announced yesterday that Virginia is scheduled to go to Phase 3 of reopening next week on Wednesday, July 1. Based on our data, Fairfax County continues to meet the necessary criteria and looks likely to go to Phase 3 with the rest of the state (also, below see chart and graphs of relevant data prepared by my office). We are by no means out of the pandemic, but reopening will enable us to move forward as long as everyone does their part and follows health precautions – especially wearing a mask, social distancing and frequent hand washing. The Governor provided slides describing what Phase 3 will look and here are key guidelines: - Nonessential businesses, restaurants and beverage services may fully reopen.
- Entertainment venues may open at 50% capacity.
- All open facilities must continue to maintain physical distancing practices and enhanced cleaning and disinfection practices.
- Gatherings of up to 250 people will be allowed.
- Teleworking is still strongly encouraged.
- Face masks are still required.
At yesterday's Board of Supervisors meeting, Chairman McKay emphasized that the Fairfax County flag continues to fly at half-mast in honor of our 464 residents who have died as a result of COVID-19, as well as our healthcare and other front line workers who continue to work hard and make sacrifices to keep us safe. They are foremost in our thoughts.

Joint Board Matter With Providence District Supervisor Dalia Palchik Requesting Inventory of Confederate Names of County Property The community's call for equity has brought attention to Confederate monuments and place names throughout the country and the county, and the painful history they symbolize. Confederate monuments and place names were affirmations of white supremacy under the siren of southern history and tradition, and they go against the goal of a more just, unified county. Joint Board Matter With Chairman Jeff McKay Honoring Town of Vienna Mayor Laurie DiRocco Mayor DiRocco's more than 17 years of service to the Town of Vienna have not only been an incredible asset to the town, but to Fairfax County as a whole. Her accessibility to Vienna residents, her ability to work with all sides on tough Town issues, and her diligent advocacy for the Town - always with a smile on her face – means she will be a mayor we will all miss. Silver Line Service Will Return Aug.16, Along With Reopening of Six Stations in Fairfax County Metro will reopen six Fairfax County stations and restore Silver Line service on Aug.16; weeks earlier than originally planned. The six stations reopening are McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, Spring Hill, and Wiehle-Reston East, plus one Orange Line station, West Falls Church. Learn more.
Board of Supervisors Approves Reduced Penalties for Late Car and Real Estate Tax Payments
Reston Comprehensive Plan Study Task Force Meeting Held June 22 Approximately 70 people participated in the Task Force's June 22 meeting. Additional information, including meeting agendas, as well as the video playlist can be found here. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 13, 7 to 9 p.m., details on how to attend are forthcoming.
Reston Community Center to Reopen on July 6 With Limited Programming RCC’s reopening will include the Terry L. Smith Aquatics Center and limited programming. In-person summer camps are canceled and offsite concerts are postponed until August at the soonest. Learn more.
Temporary Shelter Available During COVID-19 The county is providing Quarantine, Protection, Isolation/Decompression (QPID) emergency housing for those who have met eligibility criteria and are unable to safely practice infection control. The isolation/quarantine hotels are temporary sheltering sites only and do not provide health care services. Learn more. |
