Maintaining current contact information helps the board and its committees reach owners and tenants with important board announcements as well as during emergency events such as a water/gas main break or to report storm damage to vehicles or other property.  Each owner and paying tenant should complete a separate form.  Non-resident owners should enter their address at the end of the form.  Note: You do NOT need to have a Google account in order to update and submit the form.

To My Hunter Mill District Neighbors:

It is with a very heavy heart that I read the news this week about the death of George Floyd. The brutality to Mr. Floyd is now on full display and the pain being felt is deep and generations long.
 
Thank goodness for smart phones. This level of transparency is a painful but necessary step for moving forward. 
 
Although I am well aware that we are not isolated from the ugliness of racism in Fairfax County, we are fortunate to have an engaged community that deeply cares about maintaining our commitment to inclusion and diversity. I am confident that will continue and I encourage everyone to participate in a respective and productive conversation about our own biases, our privileges and our histories. As we have said before, hate has no home here.
 
Yesterday I spoke with Fairfax County Police Chief Roessler about what needs to be done to avoid such acts in our community. That discussion continues. On a positive note the county's public safety agencies have a community partnership with Communities of Trust (COT). This resident-led organization focuses on strengthening and building positive relationships between our public safety agencies and our diverse communities. I am assured that this good work will continue.
 
But silence is not an option.

Bike Advisor Program
The Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling (FABB) has created a Bike Advisor program to encourage commuters to try bicycling during the Metro Silver and Orange lines shutdown this summer.

FABB has volunteer Bike Advisors around the county available to help people find bike routes to work or wherever they would like to go in their community, provide helpful advice and the resources needed to have a successful bike trip. Learn more.

County Athletic Fields Reopening for Unpermitted Use; Additional Park Authority Openings and Guidelines
Open, walk-on use of athletic fields is allowed when the field is vacant and only during regular operating hours. In addition, the Park Authority announced the opening of campgrounds at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, as well as Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station. Learn More.

Governor Northam announced that face coverings will now be required when people are inside public spaces.  Learn more.

Who to Contact with Concerns, Violations and Questions About Phase One
To report concerns or potential violations of the Phase One guidelines for businesses call the county’s public safety non-emergency number at 703-691-2131, TTY 711. A cross-agency, cross-discipline system is in place to triage and handle complaints, with a focus first on education, awareness and seeking voluntary compliance. 
If you have questions or concerns about the face covering executive order from the Governor call the Virginia Department of Health at 1-877-ASK-VDH3. (Please do not call the Fairfax County Health Department or the public safety non-emergency number about compliance with the governor’s executive order for face coverings.)

Reston Comprehensive Study Plan
Task Force Update
May 26, 2020 Reston Comprehensive Plan Study Task Force Meeting
The second Reston Comprehensive Plan Study Task Force meeting was held on Tuesday, May 26 - watch video of meeting on left. There were more than 70 participants including Task Force members, county staff and the public. The discussion included the history of planning in Reston, examining how the comprehensive plan fits into the county’s land use regulatory system, and discussing topics for Task Force review and discussion. The next meeting is scheduled for June 8 and details on how to participate or watch will be found here when available.
Weihle Avenue Re-Striping Project
VDOT’s Traffic Engineering group investigated several safety concerns brought up by residents who live near Weihle Avenue and found that during a five-year period, 34 crashes had occurred near the intersections with Inlet Court and Fairway Drive. The next step was to find a way to improve safety/operations and the decision was made to re-stripe the left lane at the two locations.

By striping left turn lanes at Inlet Court and Fairway Drive, only in the northbound direction, VDOT will reduce the opportunity for T-bone crashes, enhance the safety of traffic turning onto Wiehle and provide a median lane for police enforcement. After checking traffic signal models, this change will not reduce the volume of vehicles going northbound, since the capacity of the roadway at the signals is not being changed.

Once the striping projects are completed, VDOT will continue to monitor traffic conditions so if there are issues, they can be rectified.

Composting at Home During Pandemic
With yard waste pickup temporarily halted to protect solid waste employees during the pandemic, residents may have yard waste materials readily available for composting. Learn more

To help limit the spread of the coronavirus, Fairfax County closed all government buildings and facilities to the public until further notice. However, the county government remains open for business online and by phone and mail and some specific services will continue to be provided in-person. Learn more.
 
County Fire Stations Close to Public
In order to protect the health of firefighters and medics, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue is closing all fire stations to the public, effective Friday, March 27, at 5 p.m. These closures are in coordination with the decision to close county government buildings to the public. Learn more.
