WCA Owner/Tenant Contact Update Form

Maintaining current contact information helps the board and its committees reach owners and tenants with important board announcements as well as during emergency events such as a water/gas main break or to report storm damage to vehicles or other property.  Each owner and paying tenant should complete a separate form.  Non-resident owners should enter their address at the end of the form.  Note: You do NOT need to have a Google account in order to update and submit the form.

Dear Neighbors,

As we close out a year that has been dark for so many, I encourage you to look for the light that surrounds us during the holidays. Our faith communities, neighborhoods and homes have been lit inside and out to celebrate our diverse faiths and the beginning of a new year. It has really been a treat to see such creative and joyous use of light all around Hunter Mill District. And for those of us interested in the visible heavens, keep an eye on the sky on Dec. 21 when Jupiter and Saturn will be so close in the sky that they will appear to be one bright star. The last time this occurred during a night sky was 800 years ago, so make sure you take a few

Dear Neighbors,

The long 2020 election season is over, but as of today, we still don't know results of yesterday's national election. Like you, I was hoping for some certainty during a very uncertain year. That said, I am proud to live in an active, inclusive and vibrant community that takes civic engagement seriously. It was pretty amazing to see the early voting turnout at the North County Governmental Center and the commitment of so many to have their voices heard. There were older voters in wheelchairs and

Dear Neighbors,

There are so many of our residents in Hunter Mill District that I consider to be everyday heroes. They are not loud and don't seek the spotlight but they are quietly doing small and big actions that benefit all of us in the community. During the pandemic and this election you can find these heroes everywhere, some examples:

Reston RELAC A/C - End of season notice

From RELAC:

Thank you for a good season.  We officially shutdown operation at noon on October 9th
We had a few extra challenges this year with Covid but we made it through the season
with our crew staying healthy.

With people staying at home more this year than normal we noticed a different pattern
of usage.  There wasn’t the late afternoon everyone getting home and turning down
the A/C.  instead it was a continuous demand all day long.

As normal we have some maintenance to perform before we empty the pipes for those
who need the main valves replaced.  RELAC will send out a notice with the dates as we
get closer to completion.  You can contact our service department or your HVAC contractor
to schedule any work you may need.

Dear Neighbors,

The county announced yesterday that almost 3,000 individuals have volunteered 96,006 hours since mid-March to assist with pandemic relief efforts. And it should be noted, saving the county a substantial amount of our tax dollars. During these difficult days, our volunteers have stepped up to make a difference and I am grateful and humbled by your efforts  thank you!

I'm especially heartened to see the outstanding volunteer efforts by our younger residents! Pictured above are volunteers for a recent Cornerstone's food drive. Another example is Curtis Bushee's Eagle Scout project. He enlisted 22 volunteers to make 1,000 masks that were

Dear Neighbors,

At the end of the first week of early voting on Friday (9/25), the county's Office of Elections reported that 7,760 votes were cast in person at the Fairfax County Government Center. This is an almost 300% increase compared to 2016!

While there is a lot of interest and excitement around this election, there has also been some confusion. There have been some recent changes by the General Assembly and our proximity to D.C. and Maryland also makes the tsunami of voting information hard to sort out. Through this

Dear Neighbors,

Yesterday, Sept. 15, the Board of Supervisors returned to the Government Center's Board Auditorium with COVID-19 safety measures in place. I was very happy to be back with my Board colleagues conducting the business of our local government. We had a very full agenda here are summaries of some of the key actions taken at the meeting. You can watch the meeting here.

Prohibition of Weapons in County Buildings, Parks and at Special Events
There were more than 80 speakers and many hours of discussion before the Board voted to prohibit weapons in county buildings, parks and special events at our meeting last night. This has been on our legislative agenda for 20+ years and this year the General Assembly enabled us to move forward. It truly was an historic action by the Board and the right thing to do for our residents and county employeesLearn more.

Civil War Monuments/Memorials
Following a June 23 Joint Board Matter by myself and Providence District Supervisor Dalia Palchik, an engaged conversation and more than 20 speakers, the Board of Supervisors voted to remove three publicly owned Civil War memorials located at the Fairfax County Judicial Complex. I was proud to be a part of this action, which essentially reversed actions by the Board of Supervisors in 1900

Elections Committee Surveying RA Members

The Reston Association Elections Committee is conducting an informal online survey to determine members’ preferences for receiving voting ballots and related information. Receiving electronic ballots would require members to provide their email addresses to the association and/or potentially to candidates running for the Board of Directors who might wish to send campaign information to residents.

Dear Neighbors,

The Board of Supervisors kicks off a busy fall schedule of meetings with a full Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15 beginning at noon. We'll finally be back in the Board Auditorium, which has been retrofitted with plexiglass panels (as shown in this photo) between board members' seats.

I am excited to get back to the business of our local government! And we are carrying forward some of the electronic means for public participation established earlier this year when our meetings were wholly virtual.

Our meeting on Sept. 15 has several public hearings and I've noted a few below. All meetings are televised on Channel 16streamed live online and available to view on demand following the meeting. Live audio of the meeting may also be accessed by dialing 703-324-7700.

Dear Neighbors,

It's hard to believe it's the end of summer! It has certainly not been the summer any of us envisioned at the beginning of the year. However, I do hope you and your families were able to find some time to relax and enjoy the many amenities we have in Hunter Mill District, including our beautiful trails and lakes.

On a personal note, much of my summer was spent recovering from triple bypass heart surgery, which was an unexpected turn of events for me and my family. The overwhelming number of good wishes was very much
